The Government of India, through the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG), established the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), Jais, Uttar Pradesh under the Act of Parliament 54/2007. The Institute is recognized as an Institution of National Importance and has been modeled on the lines of the IITs. It is promoted by six leading Oil PSUs — ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL, and HPCL — in association with the Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB). RGIPT is positioned as a “World-Class Institution” and regularly features in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)
