The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani – K. K. Birla Goa Campus invites applications for Research and Field Assistant positions under a project funded by the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Government of Goa. The project titled “Educational Schemes for the Scheduled Tribe (ST) Population of Goa” focuses on understanding the educational status and scholarship schemes among tribal communities in Goa.

Eligibility Criteria

For Research Assistant (RA):

  • Master’s degree in any Social Science discipline (Sociology, Social Work, Anthropology, Human Geography, Economics, Development Studies, Public Administration, etc.) with at least 55% marks.
  • Minimum of one year research experience.
  • Valid driving license (motorbike or car) is mandatory.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with PhD / MPhil / MRes in relevant disciplines.
  • Responsibilities include project leadership, coordination between PIs and field staff, report writing, and communication with government agencies.

For Field Assistant:

  • Master’s degree in any of the above-mentioned Social Science subjects with at least 55% marks.
  • Responsibilities include conducting fieldwork among tribal communities, collecting data, interviewing respondents, and preparing field reports.

Desirable Qualifications (for both positions):

  • Experience in research, scientific writing, and data analysis (quantitative or qualitative).
  • Fieldwork experience in rural Goa.
  • Fluency in spoken Konkani and proficiency in written English.
  • Social background or membership of Goa’s tribal communities (desirable but not mandatory).
