UPSC Combined Medical Services Examination 2026 Recruitment Notification

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification for the Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE) 2026. This examination is conducted for recruitment to various medical posts under the Government of India including Central Health Service, Indian Railways, New Delhi Municipal Council, and Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The examination will be conducted in accordance with the rules published by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (Department of Health and Family Welfare) in the Gazette of India dated 11 March 2026.

Allocation of examination centres will be on a first-apply-first-allot basis. Once the capacity of a particular centre is reached, it will no longer be available for selection.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification Candidate must have passed the written and practical parts of the final MBBS Examination. Candidates who have appeared or are appearing in the final MBBS examination may also apply. However, they must submit proof of passing before the Personality Test stage.
Internship Requirement Candidates who have not yet completed the compulsory rotating internship are allowed to appear in the examination but appointment will only be granted after completion of the internship.
Nationality Candidate must be:
  • Citizen of India, or
  • Subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or
  • Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with intention of permanent settlement, or
  • Person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam.

Special Age Limit For Medical Officers of Central Health Service – 35 years
Date of Birth Requirement Candidate must be born not earlier than 02 August 1994

Selection Process

The selection for Combined Medical Services Examination 2026 will be conducted in two stages.
  1. Written Examination (500 Marks)
  2. Personality Test / Interview (100 Marks)

The written examination consists of two objective type papers carrying 250 marks each.

Negative marking will be applicable for incorrect answers in the objective type papers.

Important Instructions for Candidates

  • Candidates must apply online only through the official UPSC application portal.
  • Mobile phones, smart watches, electronic devices and communication devices are strictly prohibited in the examination hall.
  • Candidates must report at the examination centre at least 30 minutes before the commencement of the examination.
  • Face authentication may be conducted at the examination centre for identity verification.
  • No request for change of examination centre will be entertained after submission of application.
  • Candidates must carry valid photo identification such as Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Passport, PAN Card or Driving Licence.
