Recruitment Overview

Punjab Police invites online applications from eligible Indian citizens for direct recruitment to fill vacancies of Police Constables in the District Cadre and Armed Police Cadre. The recruitment will be conducted through a Common Application Form and Common Computer Based Test followed by Physical Screening Test, Physical Measurement Test and Document Scrutiny.

Candidates will be required to indicate their cadre preference (District Cadre or Armed Cadre) while submitting the application form. Final allocation of selected candidates will be made strictly on the basis of merit, normalization of marks and the preference of cadre indicated in the application form.

Pay Scale / Salary

The pay scale for the post of Police Constable is governed by Punjab Government Notification No. FD-FP-10MISC/97/2020-2FP1 dated 29.12.2020 and Punjab Police (First Amendment) Rules, 2025.
Post Minimum Pay
Constable (District and Armed Police Cadre) ₹19,900 per month

The minimum admissible pay shall be ₹19,900 per month for the first three years from the date of joining in service.

Essential Eligibility Requirements

Nationality

  • The candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • The candidate must not have obtained citizenship, permanent residency, or a green card of any other country.

Age Relaxation

  • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes who are residents of Punjab are eligible for relaxation of up to five years in the upper age limit.
  • The maximum age limit for SC and BC candidates of Punjab shall therefore be 33 years as on 01 January 2026.
  • Ex-Servicemen residents of Punjab shall be allowed to deduct the period of their service in the Armed Forces from their actual age. If the resultant age does not exceed the prescribed maximum age limit by more than three years, they shall be deemed eligible.
  • Relaxation up to five years is also applicable to candidates who are regular employees of Punjab Government or any other State or Central Government.

Educational Qualification

Post Minimum Educational Qualification
Constable (District and Armed Police Cadre) 10+2 or its equivalent examination from a recognized Education Board or University.
Ex-Servicemen Candidates Minimum educational qualification required is Matriculation.
Candidates must have attained the required educational qualifications on or before 01 January 2026.

Mandatory Punjabi Language Qualification

Apart from the required educational qualifications, all candidates must have passed the Matriculation examination with Punjabi as one of the compulsory or elective subjects or any other equivalent examination in Punjabi language recognized by the Government of Punjab.

Candidates must possess the Punjabi language qualification on or before 01 January 2026.

In the case of wards of defense service personnel who are bona fide residents of Punjab State and appointed through direct recruitment, they must pass an examination of Punjabi language equivalent to Matriculation standard or qualify a test conducted by the Language Wing of the Department of Education of the Punjab Government within two years of appointment.

All transgender candidates shall be treated at par with female candidates with respect to the Physical Screening Test and Physical Measurement Test.

Reservation Rules and Important Notes

  • The number of vacancies may be increased or decreased by the Punjab Government or Punjab Police at any time before completion of the recruitment process without prior notice.
  • Reservation for Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes shall be implemented in accordance with the Punjab Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes (Reservation in Services) Act, 2006 and related government instructions.
  • Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections shall be implemented according to instructions issued by the Punjab Government Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities.
  • Reservation for Ex-Servicemen and their dependents shall be implemented according to the Punjab Recruitment of Ex-Servicemen Rules, 1982.
  • Employees or ex-employees of Central Armed Police Forces such as BSF, CRPF, ITBP, CISF and SSB are not eligible to be considered under the Ex-Servicemen category.
  • Reservation for women shall be implemented in accordance with Punjab Government Notification issued by the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development.
  • Reservation for wards of Freedom Fighters shall be implemented according to Punjab Government instructions issued from time to time.
  • Two percent reservation is available for wards of deserving police personnel in accordance with state government instructions.
  • Transgender candidates must possess a certificate of identity issued by the District Magistrate under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
  • Candidates currently employed in government service must obtain a No Objection Certificate from their department.

Selection Process

The recruitment process for Police Constable posts in Punjab Police will be conducted through multiple stages. The process includes a common application form and multiple selection stages to ensure transparency and merit-based selection.

Computer Based Test (CBT)

Paper Details
Paper I 100 Multiple Choice Questions carrying 1 mark each. Duration: 2 Hours. Subjects include General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, English Language Skills, Punjabi Language Skills and Digital Literacy.
Paper II Mandatory Punjabi Language paper equivalent to Matriculation standard. Total 50 questions. Minimum 50% marks required to qualify. Marks obtained in this paper will not be considered for merit.
There will be no negative marking in the Computer Based Test.
