खटीमा के सुरई वन क्षेत्र में बग्गा चौवन गांव की एक बुजुर्ग महिला भागुली देवी (उम्र 70 वर्ष) घास काटने गई थी। उसी समय बाघ ने हमला कर उस महिला को मौत के घाट उतार दिया। इस घटना के बाद सुरई के लोगों में दहशत का माहौल है। अभी तक बाघ सुरई वन रेंज में 7 लोगों की जान ले चुका है। खटीमा वन प्रभाग के एसडीओ संतोष पंत ने बताया कि बाघ के हमले के खतरे के मद्देनजर प्रभावित क्षेत्र में टीमें बाघ पर नजर बनाये हुए हैं।
