उन्होंने कहा कि उत्तरायणी मेले का प्राचीन समय से ही व्यापक सांस्कृतिक, व्यापारिक और ऐतिहासिक महत्व रहा है। प्राचीन समय में जब संचार और आवागमन के साधन सीमित थे तो उस समय मेल-मिलाप, व्यापार, सूचना के आदान-प्रदान हेतु मेलों का बड़ा महत्व था।
