About the Organization

Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is a not-for-profit Public Sector Enterprise set up by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. BIRAC acts as an implementation agency for the Grand Challenges India Program through its Program Management Unit (PMU), established under a strategic partnership with the Gates Foundation.

Job Description

The Technical Assistant will provide comprehensive technical, scientific, and programmatic support for the Grand Challenges India initiative. The role emphasizes supporting the grant lifecycle, ensuring scientific rigor, and facilitating smooth coordination between applicants, reviewers, and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line technical and user support for Grand Challenges India online and grant management systems.
  • Assist in administrative and technical screening of grant applications.
  • Coordinate peer review processes, manage reviewer assignments and communication while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Compile and organize scientific data, review reports, and documentation for project monitoring and committee meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of all scientific and programmatic data.
  • Assist in preparing technical presentations, progress reports, and scientific summaries for stakeholders.
  • Liaise with grantees for administrative and reporting requirements after award issuance.
  • Perform any other program-related scientific or administrative duties as assigned by the PMU Head.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification Master’s degree in Life Sciences (e.g., Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Public Health) or a related field.
Experience At least two years of post-qualification experience in a research environment, grant administration, or program support role within a scientific organization, university, or non-profit foundation.
Technical & Domain Skills
  • In-depth understanding of life sciences research and scientific methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and administrative skills for managing complex information and deadlines.
  • Experience with scientific grant writing, peer review, or program management.
  • Proficiency in using grant management systems or scientific portals.
Age Limit Maximum 35 years as on the closing date of application (30 January 2025).
