For PwBD candidates, seven (7) posts are reserved across engineering disciplines on a horizontal basis. Eligible PwBD categories: Orthopedically Disabled (OA/OL/OAL) with minimum 40% disability and Dwarfism (DW).

Minimum Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a full-time Degree in Engineering with 65% marks (average of all semesters, irrespective of institute weightage) in any of the seven advertised disciplines—Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, and Metallurgy.

For SC/ST/PwBD/Departmental candidates, the minimum required percentage is 55%.

The Engineering Degree must be obtained through a regular, full-time course from Universities/Institutions recognized or accredited by UGC/AICTE or related government councils.

OBC candidates belonging to the Creamy Layer are not eligible for OBC reservation and must apply as General category.

Medical Standards

All candidates must meet SAIL’s prescribed medical standards. Key requirements include:

  • Minimum Weight: 45 kg
  • Minimum Height: 155 cm (relaxation for female candidates)
  • Vision Standards: Myopia or Hypermetropia not exceeding ± 4.00 in each eye
  • No squint or colour blindness (partial or full)
  • Eligible PwBD: Only OA/OL/OAL categories with minimum 40% disability and Dwarfism (DW)
Final appointment is subject to successful clearance of the Company’s Medical Examination as per SAIL’s Medical & Health Manual.

Selection Process

The selection process consists of an Online Examination (CBT), followed by Group Discussion and Interview. Candidates must qualify in each stage as per category-wise minimum percentile requirements.

Computer Based Test (CBT)

  • Total Marks: 200
  • Domain Knowledge Test: 100 marks (40 minutes)
  • Aptitude Test: 100 marks (80 minutes)
  • Aptitude Sections: Quantitative Aptitude, English, Reasoning, General Awareness (25 marks each)
  • Minimum Percentile: UR/EWS – 50, SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwBD – 40
Exam will be held tentatively in January–February 2026 at multiple centers across India.

Group Discussion & Interview

  • Shortlisting: 1:3 ratio (discipline & category-wise)
  • Final Merit Weightage: CBT – 75%, GD – 10%, Interview – 15%
  • Tie-Breaking: Higher CBT marks; if still tied, higher B.E./B.Tech marks

Biometric Verification

Photo and thumb impression will be captured during CBT, GD/Interview, and Joining. Any mismatch will result in cancellation of candidature.

Training and Probation

  • Training Duration: 1 year (as Apprentices under Apprentices Act, 1961)
  • Probation Duration: 1 year after training

Emoluments

  • Basic Pay during Training: ₹50,000 per month (E1 Grade)
  • After Training: Assistant Manager (E1) – ₹60,000–1,80,000 pay scale
  • CTC: Approximately ₹16–17 Lakhs per annum (excluding PRP and allowances)
  • Benefits: DA, HRA/Housing, Medical Facilities, PF, Gratuity, Leave Encashment, Perquisites as per rules

Placement

Selected candidates can be posted at any Plant, Unit, or Mines location of SAIL across India. Transfers are not permitted for the first four years (two years for departmental candidates).
