Reservation Details

Application Fees

Selection Process

  1. Written Examination (Objective Type):

    The written examination will be conducted as per the Bihar Staff Selection Commission Examination Conduct Rules, 2010. If the number of applications exceeds 40,000, a preliminary examination may be organized in one or more stages. The written exam will be of objective type (multiple choice questions). Based on the performance in this exam, candidates equal to five times the total vacancies will be shortlisted for the practical (skill) test.

  2. Skill Test (Typing & Stenography):
    • Conducted on computer for both Hindi and English languages.
    • Hindi & English shorthand dictation: 80 words per minute (320 words total in 4 minutes).
    • Two additional minutes will be given for correction after dictation.
    • Total time for transcription: 20 minutes.
    • Hindi typing: 30 words per minute using Mangal font (Remington Gail Keyboard Layout).
    • English typing: 30 words per minute using UTF-8 under English (US) Keyboard Layout.
    • Candidates must select keyboard layout before starting the typing test; changing layout during typing may erase data.
    • Benchmark disabled (visually impaired) candidates will get compensatory time as per government norms.
  3. Document Verification:

    Candidates who successfully qualify in the skill test will be called for document verification. All eligibility certificates, educational documents, and reservation proofs must be presented in original.

  4. Final Merit List:

    The final merit list will be prepared based on normalized scores from the written test and skill test, category-wise. In case of a tie, the older candidate will be given preference. If the age is also the same, the alphabetical order of names (A to Z) will determine the ranking.

Written Examination Syllabus

Part (A): General Studies

Questions will test candidates’ general awareness about their surroundings and the application of such knowledge in society. It includes knowledge of current events and day-to-day observations, as well as their scientific aspects.

  • Scientific progress, national and international awards, Indian languages, books, scripts, capitals, currencies, and sports.
  • Important national and international events and their significance.
  • History, culture, and geography of India and Bihar.
  • Constitution, political system, Panchayati Raj, community development, and Bihar’s contribution to the freedom movement.

Part (B): General Science and Mathematics

Questions in this section will be of matriculation (10th) level and will include:

  • General Science: Topics from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, and basic knowledge of computers and word processing.
  • Mathematics: Numerical questions related to numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, percentages, averages, interest, profit and loss, time, work, and distance.

Part (C): Mental Ability Test

Questions in this section will assess both verbal and non-verbal reasoning abilities of the candidates.
